- Change d1dbaa3Cross-channel support for Gecko-based products. All channels have been replaced by “Gecko products”. Transvision now pulls source strings from the Gecko strings repository instead of cloning code repositories for each channel, reducing data volume from over 20 GB (more than 400 repositories) to ~2 GB on the server (about 100 repositories). Changes for Transvision developers
- New feature
- New feature Added a command line option to glossaire.sh to not create a data snapshot when ran locally:
glossaire.sh no-snapshot
(flod) - New feature Issue 435. Coding standards are enforced via php-cs-fixer, which is now installed via Composer. If you want to fix your code before committing, use the command
./vendor/bin/php-cs-fixer fix
. This is now a requirement as your build will fail on Travis CI if your code does not follow the project standards (pascal) - Improvement Issue 427. In Composer, we now use the tilde (~) operator to indicate that we don’t want to upgrade a dependency if its public API changes. See this commit for an example (pascal)
- Bug fix
Other changes
- Bug fix Issue 447. Extraction of strings from hg repositories was failing if it found a non-UTF8 source file and resulted in a damaged dataset causing searches for the locale to lead to a visually broken page. We now skip folders containing files not in UTF8 and index the rest of the files. We also log the error to report it to the localizer in Bugzilla (pascal)
- Bug fix In Productization view, images as data URIs are sanitized before being displayed (flod)
See the complete list of code changes from version 3.6 on GitHub.
Version 3.6 2015-01-22

- New feature
- Change Aurora is now the default repository for Desktop searches (flod)
- Change Mozilla.org searches now use en-US instead of en-GB as source locale (reflects a change on the reference locale for templates on mozilla.org) (pascal)
- Improvement Smarter locale selection in searches when you switch repositories (flod)
External API changes
- Bug fix
- Change Queries for mozilla.org no longer return English text when the string is untranslated (flod)

See the complete list of code changes from version 3.5.1 on GitHub.
Version 3.5.1 2014-10-07
End user visible changes
- Bug fix Fixed a bug that prevented new Gaia repositories – fetched from external web service – to appear in the list of available repositories when performing a search (flod)
See the complete list of code changes from version 3.5 on GitHub.
Version 3.5 2014-09-29
End user visible changes
- New feature Starting with this release, adding a locale to a repository (mostly Gaia) no longer requires releasing a new version of Transvision as the list of locales per repositories is now fetched from a web service maintained by flod, which means that adding new locales to Transvision can now be done at any time (flod)
- New feature OmegaT export: It is now possible to export all the translation memory to a TMX file using the specific syntax used by OmegaT (keko)
- Experimental “health status” view: We now provide an overview of all the repositories and projects indexed for a locale by Transvision with basic metrics on the status of translation as seen by Transvision (tchevalier)
- Bug fix
- Bug fix Fixed Open Sans web font not loading and falling back to a better default font (flod)
- Improvement
- Improvement Gaia view now has URL anchors for subsections and less false positives in translation consistency table (flod)
- Improvement Age of data mentioned in the footer "Data last updated XXX" (flod)
- Improvement Added gaia 2.0 support (tchevalier)
- Improvement One string view now has per locale anchors (pascal)
- Improvement Data storage no longer aggressively escape HTML tags, quotes and special characters such as & and /, which makes searching for HTML tags or things like &BrandShortName; or \n possible now (pascal)
External API changes
- Improvement
- Bug fix
- Change Gaia 1.2 (gaia_1_2) is no longer a supported repository source, replaced by Gaia 2.0 (gaia_2_0) (team)
Changes for Transvision developers
- New feature New
start.sh
script at the root of the repository, launches dev mode, checks system dependencies and generates a working default config.ini file if it doesn’t exist, making getting started in development mode error free and even easier. Script entirey compatible with Mac/Linux (but not Windows yet) (pascal) - New feature
start.sh -remote
allows launching the webserver with 0.0.0.0 IP to make it accessible to the host OS if you develop in a VM - Bug fix
Utils::logScriptPerformances()
now returns correct rounded values (pascal) - Improvement Check if Composer (PHP dependency manager) is not installed globally before downloading it (Julien Itard)
- Improvement
Strings::endsWith()
andStrings::startsWith()
now accept arrays of strings for checking, e.g.Strings::startsWith('hello!', ['!', '?', '.'])
(pascal)
Other changes
- Improvement MPL2 licence file now included in the repository root (Anthony Maton)
See the complete list of code changes from version 3.4 on GitHub.
Version 3.4 2014-06-25
End user visible changes
- New feature On demand TMX generation: The static download page for TMX was replaced by a dynamic one in which you can select which repositories you want to use to build the translation memory (tchevalier)
- New feature Translation Consistency in Gaia view: The gaia view has an additional table listing all the inconsistencies in translations in your repository, those are of course not necessarily bugs as an English term can be translated differently depending on context (flod)
- New feature Client-side filtering of search results for Desktop products: There are now filtering buttons on top of search results for any search on central/aurora/beta/release allowing you to filter the results per top folder (browser, mail, calendar, suite…) (pascal)
- Gaia 1.1 was removed (pascal)
- Updated locales supported per repository (team)
External API changes
- New feature Brand new JSON API: The old JSON API was replaced by a brand new one providing more services and which is also easier to extend to provide more services in the future. All the calls to the old API are now redirected to the new one which means that we shouldn’t break any current user. The API is documented on our Wiki and all users of our old API are invited to update their script and evaluate the new services we propose (pascal)
Changes for Transvision developers
- You can now log the memory peak and generation time of scripts by setting
PERF_CHECK
totrue
inapp/inc/constants.php
(pascal) - Logs are now stored at the root of the application in the
log/
folder (pascal)
Other changes
- Productization view was updated to remove Metro files (flod)
- Many refactorings to improve maintainability, page load speed and memory consumption of the views (team)
See the complete list of code changes from version 3.3 on GitHub.
Version 3.3 2014-05-20
End user visible changes

- List of views removed from footer to remove visual clutter, all views are reachable via the menu button (tchevalier)
- Make search possible for special characters (", <, >, etc.) (flod)
- Tamil added for Gaia (flod)
- Fixed error 500 error when downloading TMX files (flod)
Changes for Transvision developers
- New feature Rapid installation via data snapshots: There is now a specific install process for developers willing to help on the PHP/HTML/JS/CSS sides of the application only that doesn’t require a full production install, running app/scripts/dev-setup.sh instead of app/scripts/setup.sh will install and launch a working Transvision server in a few minutes and use little hard disk space, compared to the full production install mode that needs several hours of installation because of the downloading of all of the Mozilla code and data repositories (pascal)
- New feature
- Large reorganization of code: new MVC approach, strict separation of back end and front end code, some of the views ported to MVC, (more details in the commit message), relocated and refactored bash scripts into app/scripts/ folder… (pascal, flod)
- New feature
- Added file caching library to cache data sets or template. Usage details in commit message (pascal)
See the complete list of code changes from version 3.2 on GitHub.
Version 3.2 2014-03-17
End user visible changes
- New feature www.mozilla.org support: Transvision can now extract and index projects using the .lang format, the first repository added is www.mozilla.org and appears as a separate channel. Source links and Bugzilla links are adjusted to point to subversion instead of Mercurial and to file bugs in the www.mozilla.org/L10N component instead of the Mozilla Localization one. This makes Transvision more useful for people working on Web localization (pascal)
- During extraction time, if a string in the repository was not in UTF-8 (unusual but did happen for a couple of locales), our extraction script would stop and not generate valid xml for the TMX file and a full array of strings for the repo. This was leading to a server error (blank page) on some requests. This is now fixed, if a string is not extractable, the extraction is no longer interrupted, the string is just skipped (pascal)
- Lithuanian added to Gaia-l10n (pascal)
Changes for Transvision developers
- All Unit tests now use a single bootstrap file to define constants or initialize data needed to run the tests. (pascal)
- Updated our README file to add missing dependencies to install Transvision locally (pascal)
See the complete list of code changes from version 3.1 on GitHub.
Version 3.1 2014-02-24
End user visible changes

Changes for Transvision developers

See the complete list of code changes from version 2.9 on GitHub.

- Searches containing a slash (/) now have results.
- Manifest.properties files containing name and description of apps in the Gaia repo are now shown in search results.
- A regression on the Glossary search is fixed, it is now again yielding results.
Other changes
- Transvision jumps from version 1.9 to version 2.0 (and not 1.10), this is partly because the addition of source strings was significant development work which involved data structure changes and partly because I don’t want to end up with a version 1.230 at some point ;).
- The statistics page view added last week now sorts locales per number of requests and gives totals of searches and locales.
See the complete list of code changes from version 1.9 on GitHub.

End user visible changes
- Searches need to be at least 2 characters long, single letter searches now return an error message.
- Style improvements to search forms and the template for better clarity.

Version 1.7 2012-10-24

- New feature New experimental feature: You can now see all the translated access keys that are potentially wrong for your locale. If you see a reddish square next to your access key letter such as this one : , it means that there is a space in your string and the access key may not work.
- Access keys are now part of search results
- Experimental views are now linked in the footer of the site
Changes for Transvision developers
- Fixed a regression on the JSON api results (double quotes no longer escaped and breaking JSON format).
- Added back proper JSONP support activated with the callback GET parameter, sent with the application/javascript Mime type.

Version 1.6 2012-10-18
End user visible changes
- New feature New experimental feature: You can now compare differences in your translations across channels (central, aurora, beta, release) on this page
Channel to Channel differences - Thunderbird’s Chat strings are now included.
- Mozilla Central is now the default repo for searches (instead of Release)
- Removed regular expression searches to unclutter the search panel (Wildcard and case sensitive are still there)
- Fixed a bug in causing the loss of the source locale for Spanish when switching from a search on Gaia to a search on comm/moz-central repos
Other changes
- Lots of refactoring, the code is now stable enough to experiment with new views such as the Channel to Channel comparison page, with little to no impact on the main search feature for the application. That should allow specific views per locale and experiments.
See the complete list of code changes from version 1.5 on GitHub.
Version 1.5 2012-10-02
End user visible changes
- New feature New feature: Gaia strings are now included and merged with your repos. You can also do searches for the Gaia repo only
- Results are more accurate, specifically, identical strings between gecko apps are always shown.
- Ellipsis are shown with a gray background, thin spaces with a red background, thin spaces and non-breakable spaces have a tooltip to distinguish them (those changes are mostly helpers for French typography rules).
Changes for Transvision developers
- The json api now returns
[]
instead ofnull
if the search yields no result.
Other changes
- There is now a Transvision Beta server at transvision-beta.mozfr.org, if you find a bug or a regression on Transvision, please check on this beta server that the bug you want to report is not already fixed.
- Set up a basic url front controller to be able to use the new PHP 5.4 integrated web server for development and also installed the Atoum Unit Test framework.
- Now with the MozFR favicon :)

Version 1.4 2012-09-04
End user visible changes
- New feature New feature: locale to locale comparison. There is now two locale switchers, the source and the target one. By default, the source is en-US and the target is your detected locale code. You can manually set a different source than en-US so as to compare your translations with another locale. Note that the search results will be limited to the amount of translated strings in the source locale.
- Strings in MXR searches are now truncated if they exceed MXR’s field length limits, it prevents an MXR error message and usually gives good search results
- The second table of results was showing the translation in both columns, this regression is fixed.
Other changes
- The cron job updating the repositories on MozFR server was not behaving correctly and repos were not updated in the last week, this is now fixed
See the complete list of code changes from version 1.3 on GitHub.
Version 1.3 2012-08-17
End user visible changes
- Strings in .ini and .inc files are now also in results
- Non-breakable spaces are shown with a gray background in search results, this is useful for languages like French that have punctuation rules stating that some punctuation signs (?!;«») should stick to the previous word but with a spacing.
- Entity search was not searching into all available entities (only about 60&percent; of them), fixed
- Experimental: link English strings to a Google translate search
- Visual update of search results
Other changes
- The suite/debugQA strings in English are no longer extracted because they are not meant to be translated (bug 782243)
See the complete list of code changes from version 1.2 on GitHub.
Version 1.2 2012-08-10
End user visible changes
- Searches for strings with single and double quotes work ex: Search for “Don't”
- The Glossary option now yields results that make sense, when you select it all other checkboxes are unselected, ex: Search for “Bookmarks”.
That option looks for the closest matches for your locale for a word or a few words and lists them all. It also lists examples of use. The main use for that is to quickly check how a word is usually translated by your team. - Perfect Match option now actually works
- Changelog page uses the same template as the application
Changes for Transvision developers
- json webservice is now available from a normal search if you add
&json
to your search query (webservice.php is still available so as to not break API consumers, please update your script to useindex.php?json
instead. ex: Search for “Don't”
Other changes
- Simplification of the python script creating TMX files
- Overall simplification of the PHP code to remove dead code
See the complete list of code changes from version 1.1 on GitHub.
